Abstract | The study looks into the issues of urban design in the context of
Delhi, as reflected in the case study area of the central
business district. The study traces out uncertainties and
confusion regarding the role of urban design in Delhi.
The study then, points out the origin of these problems, which
was traced to lack of explicit policies and procedures as well as
the absence of evaluative criteria. In response to t h ese problems
the study suggests the conceptual framework of an urban design
program as a possible solution. The conceptual program is based
upon the use of statistical techniques for rational decision
making as well upon as using the traditional wisdom in city
building.
The study, further, demonstrates the use of such a system on the
urban design issues pertaining to the study area and then
outlines the principles for organizing urban design in the case study area.
The study recommends further development of the conceptual
framework into the urban design program, and a decision support system. |
