Abstract | This study explores the impact of psychological contract on project performance in Myanmar construction projects. In this study, five vital components of psychological contract (trust, commitment, fairness, reciprocity, and flexibility) are used as independent variables and project performance (time, cost, quality, and client satisfaction) as dependent variables. Moreover, the present research investigated whether there is any other mediating effect and moderating effect on the relationship of psychological contract and project performance. The researcher proposed inter-organizational teamwork (task-related and social related inter-organizational teamwork) as mediating variable, shared leadership as a moderating variable. Last but not the least, factors which influence psychological contract of contractor are also examined and discussed. In this study, regression analysis was used to study the association between psychological contract and project performance, then correlation test was applied for knowing which factors are affecting psychological contract and PROCESS by Hayes was utilized for moderation and mediation analysis. The data was obtained from 71 respondents who worked as project directors, deputy project directors, project managers and construction managers in Myanmar contractor firm, primarily on private construction projects. The results clearly indicated that psychological contract developed generates a higher impact on project performance in the Myanmar private construction projects and that trust is the most important factor and fairness is followed as the second crucial one. Inter-organizational teamwork was found as a mediator on the relationship between psychological contract and project performance. There are also crucial factors influencing the psychological contract, which the owner should develop. The findings of this research are expected to support contractor and owner organizations to pay attention to the psychological contract and fulfill toward each other. |
