AbstractThis study was conducted with the aim to simulate and assess the regional groundwater circulation in the Transboundary Cambodia-Mekong Delta Aquifer. Firstly, the hydrogeological characterization in the study area was carried out for the purpose of understanding groundwater flow pattern with respect to geological formations and topographical conditions. The focus modeling zone is then determined based on hydrogeological conditions. A quasi-two-dimensional hydrologic HELP3 model was used to evaluate the spatial and temporal distribution of recharge rate assuming precipitation is the main component that contributes to total recharge amount. The results from HELP3 will contribute to the identification of recharge/midline/discharge recharge zones in the Transboundary region. A groundwater flow model Visual MODFLOW was developed for studying groundwater flow direction, assessment of regional groundwater circulation and quantification of regional groundwater balance. From the results, it’s shown that groundwater tends to leak from Vietnam side to Cambodia side with larger amount than vice versa. In vertical direction, the recharge amount going upwards is higher than downwards in Vietnam side while the opposite trend is observed in Cambodia.
