Abstract | Attempts to prolong storage life of mango, b y precooling and
waxing treatments under the hypobaric storage was studied.
Quality evaluation during storage was based on weight loss,
fruit firmness, pH, total soluble solids, chlorophyll & peel
col or.
Semper fresh F, the chemical waxing treatment, was capable of
keeping chlorophyll up to 20 days of storage but it was found to
injure the skin after 2 0 days storage at high concentration
waxing treatment, and retarded the ripening process of mango
after it was removed to room temperature conditions. Brown color
developed on the skin of mango in storage which resulted in an
undesirable appearance on the samples with Semper fresh F treatment at different concentrations.
Precooling treatment was found to be a n effective method to
prolong the storage life. 30° C precooling temperature was
observed to effect loss in firmness, loss in chlorophyll. sugar
accumulation, increase in pH value, and weight loss. In this
study, mangoes precooled to 1 5° C with low concentration < below
0. 5% ) chemical treatment could be kept for 30 days in storage. |
