AbstractThere exist several operational systems which can be modeled as a " one machine " system. This is the case in process industries , like paint factories, meta l stamping factories , ice-cream manufacturing, a nd injection molding factories, etc. The study is concerned with production - inventory control of items manufactured in a single machine under stochastic demand . The model was formulated by combining the M/G/1 queuing with priority model a n d the ( R, Q) inventory control concept. Through this model, a simulation approach is use d to revise the reorder point. This mod el is quite simple in approach and practically relevant in minimizing total expected average cost of inventory and stock out under some given service levels.
