Abstract | Anthracite is still an important energy source in Korea because of
its use for space heating, especially in the residential sector.
Anthracite demand in Korea for the years 1991,1996 and 2006 were
simulated using the MEDEES program at disaggregated levels, i.e.
different sectors, end-use, fuel types and areas.
Anthracite demand was found to
price and government pricing policy.
fewer air pollutants (S02 , CO & ash
be highly dependent upon the oil
A higher oil price resulted in
etc.), less value added, the lower
employment in anthracite industry and less energy import. Lower oil
prices could result in the opposite.
Anthracite demand also increases in the case of equal government
subsidy to all the anthracite users ,which then leads to less oil
dependence, slightly more value added , slightly higher employment in
anthracite industry, the more subsidy to the higher income group and less
emission of air pollutants. With no subsidy flow to the higher income
group, then effects would be reversed.
Sensitivity analyses were also conducted. |
