Abstract | Construction industry is a huge and growing industry. Due to the labor intensive nature of this industry, it plays a major role in reducing unemployment. Thailand is fast becoming a newly industrialized country and, consequently, a lot of construction works are projected for the future. This thesis is an attempt to gain further insight in the demand for construction activities in Thailand. There are three types of construction- residential, nonresidential and other constructions. National income per capita, number of population, relative price index of housing and interest rate were used to estimate residential construction demand function. Corporate saving and industrial production index were used in nonresidential construction. Lastly, government revenue and value added in public utilities were used in other construction demand function. The demand functions were then used to project the growth in construction to provide a basis for construction development. Results indicate that construction demand is very sensitive to the number· of investment and public utilities. The pot ential demand of construction is projected to progressively increase for the next five years. · Construction industry in Thailand has become more and more competitive in recent years . The support from government as well as financial institutes working closely with the contractors are main factors that will have strong impact on the growth and development of the construction industry of Thailand. |
