Abstract | A method is developed for determining economic acceptance sampling plans
where the characteristics of interest are a mixture of variables and attributes.
The method uses a model which developed to represent the total .expected cost per
lot of exercising acceptance sampling. Primary costs considered are inspection
costs, acceptance costs, and rejection costs.
For some of the characteristic treated, inspection is destructive, while
for other characteristics, inspection is nondestructive. When dejection of a lot
occurs, the lot will be either scrapped or screened, depending upon the type of
characteristic for which rejection occurred.
An application of the model in South Vietnam Beer Company is made assuming
that, for Variables, the lot means follow the normal distribution. The beta
distribution is assumed for lot fraction defective for attributes.
The economic acceptance sampling plan for a particular problem is found by
the model with respect to the decision variables, which for variable
characteristics are the sample sizes and are control limits for the sample mean . Decision variables for attribute characteristics are the sample sizes and
acceptance numbers.
Optimization of the model is accomplished by using the pattern search,
which is a direct search technique. A computer program written in FORTRAN IV is
developed for solving the optimization problem.
Result show that the optimal plans will result in considerable amount of
saving for the company. |
