AbstractA microcomputer based control system was designed and developed to sense and control the temperature of rough rice during conduction and convection heating in rotary dryers . The system was quite flexible and accurate in controlling process variables without much attention. It was found from the drying tests that grain temperature is the most important variable, which should be carefully controlled to get maximum head rice yield and whiteness . It was also observed that high moisture paddy can successfully be dried at a stretch without tempering to safe level moisture content of about 14% and without affecting the quality by controlling the grain temperature continuously with a microcomputer
