Abstract | An experimental program is carried out to determine
experimentally the mechanical properties of mortar reinforced
with sisal fiber. Two types of matrix are investigated namely
mortar with and without rice husk ash . The fibers are long fibers
oriented uniformly in the longitudinal direction of the
specimen. Two and four layers of fiber are tested and the fiber
content is also varied for each layer . The durability of sisal
fiber reinforced mortar containing rice husk ash is a l so
investigated by using simulated aging process. The parameters
involved are fiber contents and type of matrix. Rice husk ash is
used as additive at a dosage of 30% by weight of cement.
The results indicated that the volume fraction of sisal
fiber is the important factor which affected the mechanical
properties of the sisal fiber reinforced mortar . The more the
fiber, the higher the mechanical properties of the composite. The
use of rice husk ash in the matrix considerably increases the
durability of the fiber reinforced mortar. After 48 aging cycles,
t he RHA mortar specimen reinforced with four layers of fiber and
having maximum fiber content of 18 gm. per-layer still has about
20% toughness remaining while other specimens completely lost
their toughness. |
