AbstractIn this thesis, MAED is modified into MAED-S to be suitable for the Asian developing countries like Vietnam by incorporating l\1EDEE-S into MAED's second and third submodules for calculation of electrical demand and electricity load duration curves. The long-term electricity demand forecast and generation expansion planning study for the electric power sector of Vietnam had been carried out. Optimal generation expansion plans were determined by using WASP and MAED-S models. The study also includes in appendix analysis of the institutional arrangements in power sector. The present status of electric power management has been analyzed and discussed to find out the advantages and disadvantages of the system, expected changes of the organizational structure in the context of the new economic environment.
