Abstract | Five kinds of seismicity and seismotectonic maps of China were produced on the basis of past earthquake and tectonic data of China. Three kinds (PGA, POV, POD) of maximum ground motion maps were presented in 2- and 3-dimensional fonns based on the ALGERMISSEN & PERKINS (1982) probabilistic method, and the attenuation model proposed by HU (1982) and McGUIRE (1978). The probabilistic analysis of seismic hazard shows that there are 9 high potential areas susceptible to higher ground motions within 95 years at the risk level of 62.4%, Beijing area, as the capital of China, will be susceptible to shallow focus earthquake ground motion with PGA of 131.2 gals, POV of 14.5 kines, and POD of 13.0 ems within 95 years. In case of intennediate focus, seismic hazards will mainly occur in West Taiwan and South Tibet areas. Finally, due to the highly localized distribution and very deep hypocenters (500-650 km), . the seismic hazards by deep seismicity is almost null for the majority of China . |
