Abstract | The on-farm postharvest handling systems in grourn1nuts was studied in Angadanan in the Isabel a province of the Philippines. This study was made ~o develop an appropriate on - farm postharvest handling system for ~rorn1dnuts by recommending measures to reduce on - farm losses. Twenty- four postharvest handing system were considered to identify the most appropriate system which would benefit the groundnut farmer. Quantitative and qualitative losses in the on-farm postharvest handing systems were determined from harvest to on-farm storage. Four day cured and 111ec11anically stripped pods could provide the farmers with a higher n et income if groundnuts are sold immediately after the clryi.119 operation. However, the farmers could derive the highest net income if 2 - clay cured and mechanically striped pods are stored for 45-days. Quantity loss in on-farm postharvest cou1d be minimized by 4-day curing and by using either 111arn1al or mechanical stripping methods. |
