Abstract | Experiments were conducted in a stubbled paddy field to
determine the effect of enamel coating on specific draft of
mouldboard plough. An enamel coated plate of mouldboard shape
was fabricated and the performance of a mouldboard plough with
and without this plate was evaluated. Experiments were
conducted at 24.1%, 28.4% and 32.8% (d.b.) soil moisture
content. To study the effect of ploughing speed and depth,
speed was varied from 3 . 7 kmph to 5.8 kmph and the ploughing
depth was varied from 18 cm to 25 cm.
It was observed that at all moisture contents the enamel
coating reduced the specific draft required to pull the
mouldboard compared to plough without enamel plate on the
mouldboard. The overall per cent reduction in the specific
draft was in the range of 8 to 23% . At all moisture contents
the specific draft required for enamel coated and ·uncoated
mouldboard plough increased with an increase in the speed.
However the increase in specific draft for uncoated mouldboard
plough was taper than Urn enamel coated plough during almost
all tests. Increase in moisture content showed decrease in t e
specific draft for both the ploughs. The enamel coated plough
gave the best reduction of 2 3 % in specific draft at 25 cm
ploughing depth, 5.8 kmph speed and 32.8% soil moisture
content. |
