| Abstract | The properties and behaviour of a particular clay-s hale material in the Mae Mo h diversion canal were investigated. The study includes a preliminary investigation which delineates the properties of clay-shale from muds tone or over consolidated clay material. It included the study on mineralogical aspects of the clay-shale and its suspected propensity to swelling. The swelling potential and corresponding pressures were determined by several methods using the oedometer. The swelling pressure was deemed important as it should b e taken into account f or stability analysis for open cuts. The strength of the clay-shale were determined u sing the triaxial equipment and the unconfined compression equipment . The suction moisture content relationship was d e t ermined to predict the suction pressure that could exist in the undisturbed and disturbed states o f the material. The suction value was subsequently related to the strength. |
