AbstractGenerally, in most of the companies, main consideration is not given for the accounting of costs related to Quality systems. In order to reveal the importance of Quality costs, this study concentrates mainly on designing a control chart program for Disc Brake manufacturing systems, using existing process in an Automobile Parts Manufacturing Company as a case study. In designing a control chart program, the classical control charts are implemented to each considered step of the process. Economic models are proposed to obtain optimal parameters of the control chart, i.e., sample size, sampling interval and spread of control limits, through a computer enumeration. The proposed model maximizes the average net income from the process by minimizing the loss-cost. These optimal set of parameters are determined by using multidimensional search in the algorithm. From the study, loss-cost comparisons between classical control charts and its corresponding economically designed charts are made. Sampling and inspection methods for each control point are also presented.
