Abstract | "Green city" is a new concept for urban planning in Asia. It means the city have an ecologically structure. Today, we need to learn something from nature, and balanced design and manage cities better. Urban vegetation regeneration is one way. To understand the urban vegetation in Bangkok, a research study on the urban vegetation structure was conducted. Based on the field survey in Bangkok and a literature review. This study of the urban vegetation discussed five types of structure: (1) vegetation corridors with simple structure; (2) vegetation corridors with mid- comlex structure; (3) vegetation patches with simple structure; (4) vegetation patches with mid-complex structure; and (5) vegetation patches with complex structure. The general functions of urban vegetation are related to these structures, particular the role for reducing air and noise pollution and in promoting esthetic values. Urban vegetation has been neglected by planners; the quality of urban livers can be significantly enhanced if urban planners apply the "green city" concept in their methodology. This paper discussed the significance of urban vegetation in Bangkok and suggested some policies for the urban vegetation regeneration and diversity . |
