Abstract | The intention of performing this work is to provide a procedure for code conversion from
MH to MMR and vice versa. The thesis aims at proposing an adapter which could be connected
to the conventional G3 fax machine and the composite unit would then communicate with a
similar unit at the rate of 64 kb/s over ISDN. Thus, it permits the telefax customers to utilize
the high speed B channel of ISDN for facsimile transmission using the conventional G3 fax
machine.
The task of performing the code conversion from MH to MMR and vice versa was
accomplished by decoding the MH coded data into the raw form and then coding it into the
MMR form at the transmitting end and then following the reverse procedure at the receiving end.
The programs thus developed were tested on actual fax files and the results thus obtained were
found to be satisfactory with no loss of image information. The effect of single bit error on the
quality of the output was also studied and the thesis proposes an error correction scheme also . |
