AbstractThe abrupt withdrawal of the U.S. Naval Forces in the Subic Naval Base has resulted a drastic change in the management of various resources on it. The large tract of pristine forest resources are among the typical example sorrounded by several forms of threat of ecological destruction. Apparently, large part of the remaining area of the Subic Bay Forest Reserve is covered by virgin forest that are reported to be both domestic and international ecological significance. As such, its effective preservation will rely on a more sensible management strategy governed by the availability of important environmental data. This study offers additio1n.l dimension for natural resource management on the aspect of spatial information that is inherent to the problems and its associated solutions. The assessment and analysis of various related bio-physical parameters through the use of remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were carried out. In effect, a forest management zoning plan has been generated as considerably determined by the present land cover of the forest reserve. The inclusion of soil erosion hazard, geological materials, slope and soil type form part on each perceived forest zone unit. Moreover, identification of appropriate buffer zone type was singled out in every unique ecological and social milieu outside the forest reserve.
