AbstractThis study is an attempt to develop a plasticity based model for fiber reinforced concrete. As a preliminary study, three models, von Mises, dual function, and four parameter models which are commonly used for plain concrete are tested whether it can also be used for fiber reinforced concrete. From this study, it is found that models such as von Mises, dual function, four parameter models are concentrated on stress-strain behavior prior to cracking. These models can not reflect advantage of fiber reinforced concrete in improving ductility. Hence, the models of fiber reinforced concrete are still very similar to those of plain concrete models. Fmther study is still needed. As a part of this study, an example problem of an impact of steel rod on plain and fiber reinforced concrete targets are studied. Because of the limitation of material models studied above, there is no significant improvement in impact resistant of fiber reinforced concrete targets. In addition, the model developed in this study is based on static data. And, since there is no experimental data for comparison at this stage, quantitative results cannot be directly used. However, the qualitative behavior can improve understanding of designers significantly.
