AbstractThe subject of this study is to improve the previous computational model for computing shear capacity of reinforced crack. The reduced axial stiffness of reinforcement caused by crack shear in concerete has been investigated in this study. Experimental shear stress-shear slip and steel strain-pullout results in reinforced concrete member are given. At the crack plane, steel stress-pullout relationship and its mechanical behaviors are experimentaly found to be quite different from the relationship previously obtained under uniaxial stress condition. The distribution of strain and curvature nearby the shear crack has been investigated. The high curvature induced in bar nearby the crack section has been found to be the main reason responsible to the reduced axial stiffness of bigger diameter steel bar and causes the premature failure of reinforced concrete after crack.
