Abstract | This study was conducted to determine the efficiencies of the facultative ponds with and
without sediment in treatment of TCE and industrial wastewater. There was not significantly
difference in pond performance between ponds with and without sediment. The influent TCE
concentrations of 300 and 500 mg/L caused some the reductions of SCOD removal in both
ponds. The TCE removal efficiencies of both ponds were about 99%, and volatilization was
found to play a major pathway for TCE removal. The adsorption of TCE on biomass and
sediment was not significant in TCE removal by the facultative ponds.
For the treatment of industrial wastewater having Zn and Fe contents, the pond influent
containing 50% of industrial wastewater had some reductions in the TCOD, SCOD removal
efficiencies, and suppressed the algae biomass productivity. On the contrary, the pond
influent containing 25% of industrial wastewater did not have significant effect the pond
performance. |
