Abstract | The word " communication" is becoming more and more importance to our fast growing world nowadays. With the development of many new communication techniques, large amount of data can be processed at one time. Therefore, a method of reducing these information during transmission process is needed to maximize speed and quality and minimize storage space. One of the very interesting field goes into the development of data compression technique which is one of the essential factors when dealing with the system that handles large amount of data such as multimedia and networking systems. In this study a new approach of reducing an image data using Block Truncation coding in conjunction with Discrete Cosine Transform coding is proposed and implemented. The bit-map generated by BTC is compressed using entropy coding. Adaptive DCT coding using residual feedback error is implemented to encode the BTC's high- and low-mean subimages. The results are investigated and presented as a new approach in image compression technique. The total compression is about 2.7 : 1. |
