Abstract | Physically, a hologram is a permanent record of the pattern of interference between two light waves on a photosensitive material. In this thesis, the implementation of hologram concepts as a form of associative memory is presented. Several approaches have been developed to determine the optimum values of hologram parameters. Most of them tried to improve the physical properties of the optical devices such as the lense and mirror. Unlike the previous work, this thesis uses a simulation program to find the optimum values of these parameters. Multilayer holograms are used rather than single layer holograms, to provide greater gain in the system. To measure the quality of the output, the Degree of Similarity concept is introduced. The experimental results show that this approach is capable of determining the effect of each parameter on the output. Furthermore, it can also determine whether the parameters produce the local minima or global minima of the Degree of Similarity value. The system could be further developed using feedback or thresholding concepts. |
