AbstractOne of the principles of database integration is that databases should allow a nonredundant, unified representation of data across organizations. Database integration in heterogeneous databases is a highly complex task, since there are usually differences in structures, semantics and behaviors of data. In the present work, the object-oriented approach, which provides a means to capture relatively more semantics than conventional ones, has been employed to yield an easier and more reliable integration process. A data model based on object-oriented approach has been developed to be the interlingua to which schemas defined by various conventional data models will be mapped. Translation processes for such mappings are presented. Finally, an integration process to unify translated schemas is given.
