Abstract | Finite element analysis programs are notoriously complicated
and error-prone. Complex control and data structures associated
with conventional software tend to obscure fundamental intentions,
making development and maintenance costly. This thesis describes
the problems with conventional finite element analysis software and
the potential solutions offered by object-oriented approach.
Finite element fundamentals are explained using a new perspective
leading to the implementation of an object-oriented numerical
analysis program.
Moreover, in order to reduce the problem of complicated and
time-consuming data preparation, an interactive environment
suitable for creating and managing data files based on object-oriented
data management is used with this implementation.
It is shown that the object-oriented approach outperforms
conventional finite element analysis development approach in terms
of design, implementation, validation, and maintenance of programs. |
