AbstractTraditional Unix applications and tools in a graphical workstation environment suffer at the hands of Unix's technical heritage. Most of them available under Unix seem oriented toward command-line user interfaces. The availability of cheap graphical workstations combined with the 'de facto' standard X Window System is causing the emergence of new graphical user interfaces to Unix. Replacing command- line interfaces with graphical interfaces a l so provides the opportunity to standardize interfaces across multiple applications. FPI: Floor Planning System is the constraint solving system implemented by CLP(R) programming language. This system uses command-line style interfaces to interact with users. In this study, a graphical user interface was designed and implemented to provide a user-friendly interface to the FPI. The implementation was done on X Window System V11/R4. Advanced users can directly update the CLP(R) programs while novice users may choose to stay with the facilities provided by this GUI.
