Abstract | Bangladesh is a developing country in the world. It is improving its infrastructure to develop the country. But according to different report published in the national daily of Bangladesh the delay problems is very much acute. In one report it is mentioned that the road construction cannot be finished even after eight months of delay. Because of time overrun and cost overrun the national economy face a lot of negative impacts. So, to identify and analyze the problems the researcher tries to conduct a study in rural road construction of Bangladesh. The study divided into two parts, one is international funded projects and the other is local funded projects. Each group consist of five different data. It has been done to compare the local and international funded projects delay. The data consists of nine layers of constructions and the related delay in the stage and their possible reasons of delay. Through this thesis it is tried investigate the delay situations in rural road construction in Bangaldesh. It is also tried to find the possible possible root causes of the problems and the related common problems. The study adopted different techniques such as creating the bar chart according to the planned duration and actual duration of the project. From the most delayed three stages it is found the root causes the problems. From cross-project analysis it is found the possible common cases of the problems. The top ten root causes of the delay are Rectifications (1), materials shortage (2), transportation of materials (3), Rainfall, (4) Financial crisis of the contractor (5), Unprofessional behavior of the contractor (6), Local land Problems (7), labor crisis (8), variation (9), Scarcity of earth materials (10). The common reasons are transportations problems, rainy seasons financial crisis, materials shortages, rectifications and the land conflict with the local people. Lastly it is found the comparisons between the two groups of data. The most delayed stages of constructions are subbase construction, base course construction, subgrade preparation, and site clearing and earth works. The local funded projects are more delayed than international funded projects. Local funded projects face more in financial crisis, road roller crisis, and local land related problems than international funded projects. If the problems are used in rural road construction to solve the delay problems in Bangladesh the country can avoid loss of money, time, competitive advantages, productivity as well. |
