Abstract | The emerging Object-Oriented technology, which supports the development of advanced applications, e.g. CAD/CAM, office automation, geographic information system , has been widely accepted and discussed in database community. During a decade of research for supporting new applications, researchers have adopted two different ways. One is to build OODBMS from ground up (revolutionary approach). The other is to extend an existing RDBMS to support abstract data types (evolutionary approach). In this thesis, we proposed the merging system by adopting the later approach which we believe that we can reuse the existing technology to fulfill the new requirement. For the purpose of this thesis we will limit our observation to the interface F-Logic, i.e. an object-oriented frame logic proposed by Kifer et al. (1993), with Relational Database. Although their combinations are not fit well together, we believe that it is a good starting point, in order to provide the desirable features of object-oriented, logic, deductive and other DBMS technologies, while still retaining all strength of a relational DBMS. |
