AbstractBusiness ent1t1es everywhere around the world always have to be concerned with investment and reinvestment in order to compete successfully in the marketplace. There are many factors influencing the decision making process in any investment project. However, the capital budgeting is considered the most challenging because its outcome will define whether the project be profitable in future. The problem has become especially important in Vietnam where market economy has just emerged, thereby, the market-oriented decision making in general, and, its capital budgeting practice in particular, are just being introduced. With above perception in mind, this research study is about the capital budgeting practice in the Vietnam tourism industry through a case of the Saigon Hotel, one of the leading business entities of the industry, that has successfully survived and developed owing to the vision of the management and quick adaptation to the changes of the business environment. On the basis of theoretical and practical lessons from a number of countries such as India, the United Kingdom, the United States and the case of the Saigon Hotel, the final objective of this research is to make recommendations for improving the effectiveness of capital budgeting process in Vietnam tourism industry.
