Abstract | The study proposes the integration of query mechanism and navigation techniques as a new approach in document retrieval systems. The integrated approach is then implemented and applied to bibliographic database of research works which were carried out in Computer Science Division, SAT, AIT from 1987 to 1992. The Research Bibliographic Database (RBD) system is developed with three main components. Navigational part demonstrates how navigation can be helpful in database searching and integrated with a powerful query mechanism. Conventional keyword search is also supported and options in forming simple or complicated queries about data stored in the database are provided. Microsoft Visual Basic 3.0 is used as a programming tool in conjunction with Microsoft Windows which provides Graphical User Interface (GUI) environment to the developed system. |
