| Abstract | Under competitive conditions in most businesses in Thailand and in most countries,
ethics in business and management is not a neglected subject that is worthwhile to develop.
The results from this survey of Thai managers shows that positive corporate ethical standards
significantly provide managers with working environment satisfaction and to a certain extent
a sense of success and fulfillment, which are generally emphasized by companies as
fundamental to an organization's performance. The manager's corporate ethical behavior
which was found to be influenced by their perception of ethical conduct of the organizations
determine their personal and job stress. The results show that managers' corporate ethical
behavior was inspired by both outwardly- and inwardly-focused aspects. The outward-focused
referred to managers' perception of corporate ethical standards and environment
while the personal moral behavior and attitude towards Buddhist principles represented the
inwardly-focused which was generally overlooked by study similar research in the Western
context. To build corporate ethical standards, managers emphasized the significant influence
of the ethical perspectives and behaviors of significant persons including top management,
superiors and other managers in the organizations. Code of ethics and the degree of shared
values also determines the manager's perception of corporate ethical standards and
environment while ethics workshops were rather insignificant. The study also offers ideas
to enhance ethics in business and management based on these inwardly and outwardly-oriented
approaches. |
