Abstract | The majority of Mongolia's territory is rural in nature which requires an appropriate and
separate policy from Urban telecommunications network planning and modernization. For the
purpose of this functional plan all telecommunications facilities below Aimag level are considered
as " Rural network".
Providing telecommunications services to rural areas in an economical manner requires
careful planning. Therefore, it is important to find effective approaches to improving
telecommunications services in rural areas. Use of the computer software tool PLANITU is
one of the solutions for rural network planning. The research study involves in forecasting of
future demand of the network based on the network data and network planning of a case study by
using PLANITU tool. As the result of this, the recommendations for short and long term rural
network planning, and the network planning and modernization steps for rural network of
Mongolia are formulated. The provision of appropriate rural facilities is also vital to the country
and is an essential social requirement. Due to heavy investment it is hoped that planned, phased
modernization of existing rural telecommunications network should generally lead to the creation
of the Integrated Digital Network. |
