Abstract | The area of paddy field in a tidal low-lying basin can be regarded as the aggregation of many shallow reservoirs placed on the surface of an extremely mild slope, and the bottom slopes of these drainage channels are also very mild. The flow is unsteady that changes in space and time and subject to the effects of ocean tide. Firstly, the methods of numerical integration with simulation of unsteady flow in open channel are reviewed. Secondly, the numerical simulation of low-lying drainage basin and interaction of tidal and river flow are reviewed and discussed. Thirdly, a theory for solving a problem of an unsteady flow in both simple and complex looped channel network is developed. In case of the simple looped channel network, unknowns number were reduced to only two, and they could be solved without using matrix calculations. In case of the complex looped channel network, it was decomposed into branch sets and the number of unknowns were reduced to twice of branch set number. They can be solved by matrix calculations such as the Gauss' Elimination Method. A computer program of unsteady flow simulation in a looped channel network is built based on the developed theory of unsteady flow simulation in a branch channel network. This computer program is then applied to the South NINH BINH Irrigation and Drainage Network that is located in a tidal low-lying basin. The results of the computer program correlate well with observations. |
