AbstractDue to the extension of the irrigation project in the Nan river basin, The total water demand of the basin is increased while the reservoir is facing the long critical drought period from 1988-1993. Therefore this study was performed in order to revised the operating rule curves of the reservoir with revised reservoir inflow and existing water requirement. The rainfall-runoff conceptual model (NAM) was used to generate reservoir inflow for the period prior to the dam was constructed. The reservoir system was simulated using the HEC-5 reservoir simulation model for a period of 30 years considering the existing water demand. A combination of historical inflow and simulated inflow data were used for this purpose. The rule curves were determined for different purposes and the combination of purposes by changing priority between power, irrigation and flood control. The proposed rule curve was selected by considering the minimum shortage of firm power requirement and irrigation demand. Operating the system with the proposed rule curve obtained from this study could reduced the shortages of power requirement and water demand compared with the existing one.
