AbstractThis study concerns an investigation into the causes of delays of construction in Nepal. The preliminary survey involving three parties owners, contractors, and consultants in the Nepalese construction industry is conducted. The objectives of the study is conducted to rank the factors that are causing delays. A questionnaire is designed and distributed to above said parties involved in ongoing projects at the time of study period. Separate list for each profession is prepared and ranked. A common list is prepared from the view points of all the respondents. Results indicate that shortages of construction materials, effects on weather, slow decision of owner, shortage of qualified workers, and poor relationship among parties are the most important factors responsible for delays of construction works. Joint efforts· of all the personnel involved in the construction industry with improved and change of method of construction are suggested recommendations for the reduction of such factors that are responsible for delays.
