Abstract | More commercially responsive and more productive railway organizations were widely rec- ognized in the past years. Therefore many countries in the world introduce reforms to their railway organizations to improve the operations of passenger and freight railway services. Structural separation, third party access to the railway infrastructure and privatization are some of the main methods of the reformation in most countries. This research paper aims to review reformations of railway organizations and summarize advantages and disadvantages of reformations in China, Japan, Korea, Australia, Germany and United Kingdom. Differ- ent countries have adopted a different combination of structure, balance between private and public ownership and regulation to achieve the specific objectives, with different degrees of success. |
