Abstract | There is a lot of delay and congestion in most intersections in Bangkok due to population growth and increase in car ownership. Managing the flow of traffic in the intersections become very complex. The safety of vehicle drivers as well as pedestrians is one of the main priority for timing and signal design. Data collection for the intersection was done manually for the isolated intersection in Tham- masat university, where every vehicle was converted into passenger cars using the passenger equivalent factor developed by the Federal Highway Administration Research and Technol- ogy of Thailand. The geometric parameters for the intersection were also collected manually. The highest I5-minute peak volume for vehicles and pedestraisn used for the design were collected during a peak hour. The timing and signal design for the intersection was done using the formulas provided by Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) for the development of phase plan as well as for the determination of both vehicular as well for pedestrians signal timings. In this study, a phase plan was developed and the signal timing for vehicles and pedestri- ans was designed for the isolated intersection. The signal timing developed provides safety and relative efficiency for both vehicles and pedestrian. Therefore, a pre-timed signal is appropraite and usable for the intersection. |
