AbstractTunneling projects are highly complex compared to the activities related to them. They pose special challenge related to geological conditions and excavation methods to pro- ceed with construction. This research focuses on risk management process in tunnelling projects. Two tunnel projects are studied, location of these projects are in India and Sweden. Risks and problems associated with the Swedish project have been identi- fied through study of articles and documents. Series of questionnaires were sent to both the projects in order to understand what risks are anticipated, problems are faced and how they are avoided or managed in these tunnel projects. Both the projects are unique as considering the geological conditions and technology used for construction. The two tunnel projects have anticipated identical risk but some risks differ due to dif- ferent construction methods, tunnel boring machine (TBM) and drill & blast method (D & B). Using the knowledge from this study it is determined how risk management and environmental factors are effectively handled in tunnel project in India.
