Abstract | This thesis report is written based on a case study on the facility layout of Metal Workshop of PT INK.A (Indonesian Railway Industry). The objective of the study is to improve the existing layout based on multi objective optimization. The problem is modeled as Multi Objective Quadratic Assignment Problem and solved using an optimization algorithm. LINGO package software is used to find out the optimal solution to this problem. However, in real life it was not possible to place the machines exactly in the manner specified by the optimal solution e.g. LINGO. This is because of a number of physical constraints which were not included in the model. Theoretically optimal solution, however, showed the way the existing layout be improved and formed the basis for improvement. The comparison of the existing layout and proposed layout shows that the latter is better in term of improving the objectives. The main improvement can be noticed in the distance traveled. They have become shorter especially the spacing between machines which involve high material flow have been brought closer. |
