AbstractChina is among the fastest growing economies in the world. The high growth is causing the high growth in electricity consumption on one hand and environment degradation on the other. In this study, the possibility of using natural gas in power generation in Shanghai is explored. The environmental benefit of a proposed gas power plant is evaluated. Emission under several scenarios are generalized with the help of IMP ACTS module under the ENPEP model. It is found that the gas-fueled power generation, within the framework of Shanghai area, can bring the society great benefit from the environmental point of view. Moreover, all investments considered, it is also economically feasible. Based on the above, discussion about the prospect of natural gas in power generation in China is made, considering national energy and environment policy.
