AbstractDuring the past few decades the residents of Bangkok has dramatically increased and ac- cording to world population review, (2018) it was estimated that more 10 million people are resident in Bangkok city. Furthermore, the Thai government were able to emphasis on road expansions with the addition of the North and South MRT Blue Line project in Bangkok city area, this enabled the transportation needs of a fast-growing population and rapid urbaniza- tion. Being located in the Chao Phraya delta, Bangkok city area has low elevations and is underlain by a sequence of clayey, silty and sandy soil layers. Land subsidence due to groundwater extraction had been suspected and observed in Bangkok city, in the past as well as nowadays. With the increasing groundwater pumping, land subsi- dence is unavoidable and its effect on infrastructure development of the city must be seriously considered and controlled at certain degree. The presence of the underlying thick and soft clay layer is another important factor to contribute to land subsidence of the city. In this study, (1) Geotechnical characterization of the subsoil along the first MRT line was carried out. Construct a Soil profile along the Blue MRT line. (3) Estimated and identi- fied the geotechnical parameters of the soil profile which range from 60 to 70 m depth with several layers of soil. (4) Performed a geotechnical characterization of the Soft to Medium clay. As a result, a subsoil profile of 8 soil layers was characterized, including a soft and compressible clay layer located on top of the soil profile from surface to the depth of more than 20 m. The Plasticity chart and Activity chart of soft to Medium Clay was constructed
