AbstractSoil water characteristic curve (SWCC) is an important tool which used to measure and estimate unsaturated soil parameters for the analysis and design for engineering purpose. Estimating the SWCC is not an easy task which in general takes continued time and effort, but in this project adaptation of instrument named Tension Meter was modeled for experi- mental analysis. The setup of this instrument modified such that measurement of the per- meability as a constant head test meter could be conducted. Five soil samples with varying gradation/particle composition composed mainly of sandy soil with three different densities namely as 1.6ton/m3, 1.7ton/m3, 1.8ton/m3 were used to carry out the experiment. Each soil sample were tested for tension or the matric suction in centimeters and the water content corresponding to each tension head. Then the samples were tested for permeability test. The results were then compared with well-known empirical equation and it was observed that the results best fitted the empirical curve. Through the obtained SWCC curve we can know the water retention capacity of soil sample for various engineering and agricultural purposes for example maintenance of turf grass in athletic field.
