Abstract | Settlement due to consolidation has been affecting Bangkok for past 35 years. Many research has been done to investigate about human induced hazards that cause consolidation in Bangkok clay. But very few researches have been done to investigate on the natural consolidation of Bangkok clay. The effect of tree roots to natural consolidation has been investigated in this research. Soil samples taken at various lengths from trees has been analyzed using intrinsic compression. It is shown that there is a significant contribution from tree roots to the natural consolidation of Bangkok clay. The compaction model for sedimentary basins which was presented by Fowler & Yang (1998) has also been validated in this research. A program for the model has been coded using Fortran and porosities are generated for different depths. Then it is compared with actual porosities. Finally, the mathematical model is successfully validated using two Bangkok subsoil data in this research. |
