Abstract | The process of investigating and qualifying contractors is important to ensure the success of construction projects. Prequalification has been established as a standard practice by public and semipublic organizations. Its objective is to ensure that the contractors' characteristics and capabilities match the requirements of the project under consideration. This study identifies criteria that are considered during prequalification process for the electric energy construction projects in Thailand. Two organization types participated in this study were semipublic owner, The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and general contractor. The perceived impact of existing criteria and subcriteria on the contractor prequalification was obtained through personal interview. To determine the important prequalification criteria, an analysis of mean impact responses by organization types has been perf01med and also their mean impact responses were evaluated for statistical significance. The results indicated that the most important criteria include : contractor's experience, financial standing, key personnel, equipment capabilities, past performance, current work load, construction capability, business condition, capacity of company, and litigation history. In comparing the results obtained by owners and contractors, it was found that the perceptions towards criteria are similar. In addition, to structure the obtained criteria, factor analysis was employed to group them. The results revealed that prequalification criteria were divided into four groups called as project resources, quality and quantity of work, historical issues and situation of company, and disputes and claims. |
