AbstractWith the advent of Internet technology, information interchange becomes much more rapid and important. Therefore information management technology changes conespondingly from the traditional database management systems (DBMS) that take local server as back-end supporting program to the field that take the Internet as back-end environment, hence needs the utility of combination of distributed computing, object-oriented technologies and implementation tools that has powerful networking abilities. Observing the trend to an object web and the requirement of conducting long duration activities on the Internet, this study takes CORBA and Java as implementation tools and provides an approach to manage long duration activities which could access heterogeneous autonomous databases residing on the Internet. The ConTract model is used to specify long duration activities.
