AbstractIn Northeastern Thailand, OV infections continue to be found, despite the national policy of controlling helminth infections annually. This study aimed to assess the factors of FSM services affecting the prevalence of OV infection and to develop SFD for evaluation of the status of FSM services in selected study areas, namely Khaem Subdistrict, Uthumphon Phisai District and Bu Sung Subdistrict, Wang Hin District, Sisaket Province. The data were collected through questionnaire surveys, in-depth interviews, and observation. The factors of FSM services comprising the socio-demographic, personal hygiene, and FSM practices factors were used for identifying the factors affecting the prevalence of OV infection by using multiple regression analysis. The result defined which the knowledge of OV infection at the level of less than 80% (β = 0.149, p-value = 0.001, Adjusted R2 = 30.8%) was significant factor associated with OV infection in the Khaem Subdistrict and the consumption of fermented fish (β = 0.160, p-value = 0.001, Adjusted R2 = 26.3%) and raw fish in spicy condiment (β = 0.151, p-value = 0.001, Adjusted R2 = 26.3%) were the significant factors associated with OV infection in the Bu Sung Subdistrict. For the overall faecal sludge management, the Khaem Subdistrict had 59% of safely managed while the Bu Sung Subdistrict had 86% of safely managed. Therefore, for health risk protection, people in two study areas should be monitored regularly and used on-site sanitation for their functioning, as well as changing their eating behavior. In addition, the involved organizations of the faecal sludge management and the surveillance of helminth infections in selected study areas should provide service of the collection, transportation, treatment, and disposal as well as the helminth infection control that cover all areas and all households.
