AbstractBlackboard model of problem solving is now accepted as the most advanced feature of problem solving because of its capability of cooperating multiple kinds of knowledge to solve particular problem. Object-oriented software engineering is now applied widely in many fields of software development. The purpose of this thesis is to provide the object-oriented methodology for development of blackboard-based expert systems. The Visual Modeling Technique (VMT.) is applied. The object-oriented diagrams (use case diagram, class diagram, sequence diagram, deployment diagram, etc.) involving blackboard-based expert systems are constructed. Without depending on the problem domain, the proposed methodology can be used as a prototype for developing blackboard-based expert systems. A case study, Student Advisory System is developed to prove that this proposed methodology can be used in practice. The secondary purpose of the case study is to develop the blackboard-based expert system that can give an advice to the student about courses one should take in a particular term.
