AbstractThe accuracy of the machine tool is influenced by two major types of error, systematic errors and random errors. This work presents the methodology to obtain a compensation algorithm of the systematic error for five-axis milling machine. It could be applied for other multi-axis machine of arbitrary configuration. It is based on software compensation teclmique with indirect measurement method. Suitable tuning pieces to determine x, y, z, A, and B error components are discussed in this work. The geometry transform and tool path generation is presented for generating a spherical tool path that is the initial ideal for tuning piece. The errors were measured on a regular grid. The values of the error between grid point are obtained tlu·ough interpolation. The compensation of the systematic errors are discussed and implemented.
