AbstractIn this paper, an approach to evaluate the performance of a manufacturing work-cell, with only one type of product, using the concept of Factory Signature Curve (FSC) is presented. Performance measmes are throughput, average flow time, level of work in process, and utilization. A procedure for generating the FSC and how to use it is proposed. Th.is procedure is tested on the complex system where there is a large number of workstations. It is found that the information obtained from factory signature analysis could potentially be utilized to accurately evaluate the performance of a manufacturing work-cell for the purpose of performance improvement.
